My Learning strategies

First, I seek the materials related to the topic. Secondly, I read material that relates to the fourth material, namely "News Gathering and Interviewing: Conducting the Interview" and I try to understand the material by reading carefully and seriously. While studying and reading the material, I listened to my favorite music on YouTube and accompanied by a cup of iced coffee. The reason was because it made me more enthusiastic about learning and not to be sleepy while studying. Then after I finish reading the material I usually have to repeat it to remember and make sure I understand the material and I will also note the important points of the material. Finally, I finished understanding the material and do assigned tasks.

 

Synopsis

According to Dianne Smith, MJE (2010), author of “Introduction to Journalism”, state that there are several ways that news is gathered by reporters and editors including: eyewitness accounts, events calendars/futures books, press releases, stringers/freelance contributors, beat system, wire services, interviews, and background research. Interview is a reporting process by asking sources to dig up information or information. Sources in interviews can be observers, perpetrators, witnesses, victims, and anyone with information. In conducting the interview, you must be prepared carefully and well. For example, prepare questions using the 5W and 1H to form relevant questions that will get the interviewee to open up with you. The what, how and why are especially good for this because these questions cause the interviewee to explain something to you, and that means he or see will be speaking in entire sentences, possibly even paragraphs, rather than in one-word responses.

 

Reflection

Having read the material entitled " News Gathering and Interviewing: Conducting the Interview". I now realize that in a news gathering, we must conduct an interview with the informant and must pay attention to good interview preparation. Most importantly, I have learned that when we want to do an interview we must pay attention to careful preparation so that the interview goes well. In addition, it is also important to prepare questions for the interviewee and maintain behavior during the interview such as avoiding asking questions that are too personal. I have significantly developed my skills in the news gathering and interviewing subject. However, I have not sufficiently improved my ability to gather news and prepare good and true interviews. This means that I have to continue to practice and learn a lot about how to gather news and prepare for an interview like preparing interesting questions so that you can do a good interview and get the desired results. This skill will be essential to me as a learner because it is very useful for me to practice writing and speaking skills. Because I did not too proficient with writing news and doing a good interview. I will now need to hone my writing and speaking skills. As a next step, I need to learn more about good writing techniques in making news from various sources.
