My Learning strategies

First, I seek the materials related to the topic. Secondly, I read material that relates to the material, namely about "(Background) Research: Investigative Reporting and Other Methods in News-Gathering)" and I try to understand the material by reading carefully and seriously. While studying and reading the material, I listened to my favorite music on YouTube and accompanied by a piece of brownies. The reason was because it made me more enthusiastic about learning. Then after I finish reading the material I usually have to repeat it to remember and make sure I understand the material and I will also note the important points of the material. Finally, I finished understanding the material and do assigned tasks.

Synopsis

According to Dianne Smith, MJE (2010), author of “Introduction to Journalism”, state that before composing questions to ask during an interview, it is often necessary to do some background research, either on the topic to be discussed or on the person you are about to interview. This may involve reading previously published articles on the topic or concerning the interviewee, looking up biographies of the interviewee or searching for information on the Internet. It often means asking questions of people who know something about the topic or the interview just to get background information. Investigative reporting is one of a kind in Journalism. Definitions of investigative reporting vary, among professional journalism groups there is broad agreement of its major components: systematic, in-depth, and original research and reporting, often involving the unearthing of secrets. Looking for news gathering is the daily work of journalists, especially journalists or correspondents, in journalism there are several methods for gathering news, namely observation, telephone conversations, research and interviews.

Reflection

Having read the material entitled "(Background) Research: Investigative Reporting and Other Methods in News-Gathering)". I now realize that doing background research is necessary and important to do before conducting an interview. Most importantly, I have learned that before compiling questions to ask during the interview, it is necessary to do background research, either on the topic to be discussed or about the people we will be interviewing and also as journalists we should do investigative journalism where journalists investigate deeply one interesting topic. I have significantly developed my skills in background research: investigative reporting and other methods in news-gathering subject. However, I have not improved my ability to do background research and investigative journalism. This means that I have to do background research both on the topic and on the people who will be interviewed so that they can formulate questions easily. This skill will be essential to me as a learner because it is very useful for me to practice writing skills. Because I did not proficient in writing and compiling questions and background on news. I will now need to hone my writing skills. As a next step, I need to learn more about good writing techniques and news gathering techniques in making news from various sources.
