My Learning strategies

First, I seek the materials related to the topic. Secondly, I read material that relates to the sixth material, namely "Feature Writing: Feature Leads, Bodies, and Conclusions" and I try to understand the material by reading carefully and seriously. While studying and reading the material, I listened to my favorite music on YouTube and. The reason was because it made me more enthusiastic about learning and not to be sleepy while studying. Then after I finish reading the material I usually have to repeat it to remember and make sure I understand the material and I will also note the important points of the material. Finally, I finished understanding the material and do assigned tasks.

Synopsis

According to Dianne Smith, MJE (2010), author of “Introduction to Journalism”, state that Feature stories are stories about people and what they do. They can be in a variety of forms and can be any length, from the very brief featurette to the magazine length, in depth feature. They are written much more creatively than news stories because they are not locked into a particular structure. Meanwhile, feature leads is the introduction of the story. The focus is on whatever the reporter feels will draw readers into the story and make them want to read every word. There are several common types of feature leads, namely: allusion leads, anecdotal leads, contrast leads, parody leads, narrative lead, descriptive lead, startling statement lead, question lead, quotation lead. A feature needs more than a seductive lead and punchy ending. It has to be hold the reader’s attention throughout with moments of suspense and resolution. The techniques help sustain a piece are: (1) repetition of core themes, metaphors, and figurative language; (2) varying sentence and paragraph length and pace; (3) consider the point of view; (4) the end of the story.

Reflection

Having read the material entitled "Feature Writing: Feature Leads, Bodies, and Conclusions". I now realize that Feature stories are stories about people and what they do. Most importantly, I have learned that feature writing is used extensively in magazines, newspapers and online media. It covers a story in depth and is meant to captivate the audience's attention for a specific purpose by looking at the story from a different angle. Moreover, in feature writing it is important to pay attention to the lead feature because it draws the reader into the story and makes them want to read every word. I have significantly developed my skills in the feature writing subject. However, I have not improved my ability to write a good feature. This means that I have to continue to practice and learn a lot about how to properly create feature leads, bodies, and conclusions. This skill will be essential to me as a learner because it is very useful for me to practice my writing skills. Because I did not too proficient with feature writing and how to make correct and interesting feature leads, bodies, and conclusions. I will now need to hone my writing skills. As a next step, I need to learn more about good writing techniques in making news from various sources.
